Welcome to Comberton Twinning Association
Our village of Comberton (near Cambridge, UK) is twinned with the village of Le Vaudreuil, near Rouen in France.
|
The twinning charter invokes bonds of friendship between the people around Comberton and around Le Vaudreuil through reciprocal visits,
and says that the aim of the twinning is to develop co-operation and understanding between our two nations by fostering friendship between their people.
It's also great fun, and educational!
We are actively seeking new members to join the twinning, particularly families with children.
You don't have to live within Comberton - we have members from the surrounding villages.

Highlights
- Annual visits (by coach) to and from our twin village in Normandy – Le Vaudreuil, near Rouen.

- We went to France in April 2023, and plan to go again in Autumn 2024 to celebrate 25 years of twinning!

Visits by the French

Spring 2024 - The French are coming to us for the first weekend (3/4/5) of May 2024.
We have planned a garden visit on Saturday afternoon, a ceilidh and pot-luck supper on the Saturday evening and a farewell
Sunday lunch at a historic venue - Anstey Hall in Trumpington. Contact the secretary (see below) for more information!

Spring 2022 - The French families came to Comberton 27-29 May 2022.
They arrived Friday evening, after a day in London, and left Sunday afternoon after an early lunch.
No great effort was needed to entertain them – they just want to experience English family life.
We all met for a garden BBQ at Manor Farm on the Saturday evening.
Trips to France

Next visit to France is likely to be in Autumn 2024. The dates of 20th-22nd September are proposed - reserve them in your diary!

Previous visit was Spring 2023 - by coach on the last weekend in April 2023,
leaving on the Saturday morning, and returning on the 1st May.The trip went very smoothly with no border delays.
Social Events
- We had a fun social evening and bring-and share supper with musical performances on Saturday 20th January at Birdlines Manor.
- Friday 7 June 2024 - AGM and Social in Village Hall.
- Saturday 13 July 2024 - BBQ at Manor Farm - Bastille weekend!

Membership
Membership costs only £15, with under-18s joining free. Costs for exchange visits are low, as the hosts provide accommodation and most meals.
In return there is an expectation that English families will host a French family for a future exchange visit. Please contact the chairman or secretary for more details, or to join.

Governance
Annual General Meeting
The AGM of Comberton Twinning Association is held at Comberton Village Hall, usually in May or June. In 2024 it will be on Friday 7th June.
Constitution
The Twinning Association, as a non-profit unincorporated voluntary organisation, is regulated by a constitution.
Policy Documents
The Twinning Association has a set of procedures concerning various aspects of compliance with UK legislation and best practice. These should be read and observed by all members.

The Twinning Association holds minimal personal data about its members, updated annually as part of membership.
We have a Data Protection Policy which explains our holdings, procedures,
and compliance with the EU GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) which came into force in May 2018, and as migrated following Brexit to become the UK GDPR in 2021.

Dill seeds -
In April 2017 we received a batch of packets of dill herb seeds (Aneth du Vaudreuil) These were provided to asssociation members, with spares to pass on to neigbours or friends as publicity
and as a symbol of the continued relationship between the two villages. There is available for download and printing a short A5 handout (in English).
